Las encuestas realizadas entre 2013 y 2016 indicaron que aproximadamente 2,4 millones de personas (1,0%) en el pa\u00eds viv\u00edan con hepatitis C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00bfCuales son los sintomas?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Las personas con una infecci\u00f3n por el VHC reci\u00e9n adquirida por lo general son asintom\u00e1ticas o tienen s\u00edntomas leves. El color amarillento de la piel (ictericia) puede ocurrir en personas 20%\u201330%, y los s\u00edntomas inespec\u00edficos (p. ej., malestar o dolor abdominal) pueden estar presentes en personas 10%\u201320%. Pueden pasar muchos a\u00f1os desde el momento en que una persona se infecta con el virus antes de que se presenten s\u00edntomas como fatiga extrema, cirrosis hep\u00e1tica, c\u00e1ncer de h\u00edgado o insuficiencia hep\u00e1tica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong>De cada 100 adultos infectados con hepatitis C...<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>75-80 <\/strong>desarrollar hepatitis C cr\u00f3nica<\/p><p><strong>60-70 <\/strong>desarrollar una enfermedad hep\u00e1tica cr\u00f3nica<\/p><p><strong>5-20 <\/strong>desarrollar cirrosis<\/p><p><strong>1-5 <\/strong>morir de enfermedad hep\u00e1tica o c\u00e1ncer<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Si su prueba de hepatitis C dio positivo o cree que est\u00e1 en riesgo, busque atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica de inmediato para ayudar a prevenir estas complicaciones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Datos de infecci\u00f3n<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00bfC\u00f3mo se transmite la hepatitis C?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>La hepatitis C se transmite principalmente a trav\u00e9s de la sangre, lo que puede ocurrir por:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Recibir transfusiones de sangre, trasplantes de \u00f3rganos o productos sangu\u00edneos antes de que se implementaran los procedimientos de selecci\u00f3n de donantes (1992).<\/li><li>Usar drogas intravenosas y compartir agujas y jeringas.<\/li><li>Nacimiento cuando una madre est\u00e1 infectada con el VHC.<\/li><li>Lesiones por pinchazo de aguja en entornos de atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Aunque es poco frecuente, el VHC tambi\u00e9n se puede propagar a trav\u00e9s de:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Usar agujas sucias para tatuajes o perforaciones en el cuerpo.<\/li><li>Tener relaciones sexuales con alguien que tiene hepatitis C.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00bfCu\u00e1les son algunas formas en que la hepatitis C NO se transmite?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>La hepatitis C no se contagia en los alimentos ni en el agua.
