Academic Detailing

Connect, Educate, & Support for Sexual & Social Health

PROGRAM BACKGROUND

Arizona State University SIRC, in partnership with Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS), has an Academic Detailing (AD) program to improve health outcomes for people in Arizona. DISH-AZ provides individualized and ongoing connection, education, and support for Arizona healthcare providers and staff for whole clinic care

AD is a practice focused on supporting healthcare providers to adopt and practice evidence-based behaviors to improve patient outcomes. Through DISH-AZ, you can schedule an AD session from a Detailer with experience in HIV, STIs, HEP C, and sexual health.

WHAT DOES AD LOOK LIKE?

AD visits are available in-person, virtually, or over-the-phone at no-cost. They are typically done one-on-one, but can be done with small groups that ideally lead to one-on-one AD sessions. AD sessions are on-going and focused on meeting the needs of each healthcare provider.

A healthcare provider and a Detailer arrange a time for an AD “visit”. Most detailing relationships begin with a collaborative assessment. The Detailer brings their experience in sexual and social health, HIV, STIs, and/or Hepatitis C. Visits can be as short as 10 minutes, or as long as an hour or more.

WHAT CAN I LEARN ABOUT?

AD sessions focus on the following topics:

    • Sexual health conversations and history taking
    • Care for people who use substances
    • HIV/STI testing and treatment, including syphilis among MSM
    • Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) for HIV prevention
    • Rapid initiation of antiretroviral therapy for new HIV diagnoses (Rapid StART)
    • Hepatitis C testing and treatment
    • Mpox (formerly known as Monkeypox)
    • Gender-Expansive Care
