If you just want someone to talk to and listen- or have a question about where to find help for a need you may have- the Link Specialist volunteers are here for you.Because all of our Link Specialists are volunteers- and their schedules vary- you may need to leave a voice mail message. Someone will get back to you within 24 hours. (Contact us for eligibility criteria.) CareTeam members will do what they can- when they can- in an organized fashion. Team member volunteers will help empower you to achieve individual goals that you set for yourself. They are available for a three-month period. About AETCThe mission of the AIDS Education and Training Center is to provide healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide outstanding care to people living with HIV and AIDS. Who we servePhysicians- dentists- nurses- mid-level practitioners (NP- PA)- pharmacists and mental health workers have access to training from peer colleagues who possess expertise in the management and treatment of HIV disease. Education and training opportunities target clinicians with low to mid volume HIV patients in their practice- and include statewide continuing education sessions- consultations with experts- and preceptorships with clinicians who have a large number of HIV patients in their practice. The Arizona AIDS Education and Training Center also facilitates dialogue between urban and rural practitioners- and collaborates with other Ryan White Consortia providers.

In 1985- a few concerned citizens decided to make a difference in the Tucson community?s response to HIV & AIDS. They formed the Tucson AIDS Project (TAP)- followed shortly by the Shanti Foundation. In 1987- a group of people living with HIV/AIDS incorporated their grassroots advocacy efforts into the People with AIDS Coalition of Tucson- PACT for Life.Working in concert- the three agencies created an array of services for people infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS- meeting basic needs as well as more sophisticated ones- while simultaneously providing information and skill-building programs to help others prevent further infection.In 1997- again responding to the needs of their clients and community- PACT- Shanti- and TAP merged under the name Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation (SAAF) creating one of the largest nonprofit consolidations in the history of Pima County. SAAF continues the traditions of PACT- Shanti- and TAP- providing direct services and programs in safe- supportive environments that enhance the quality of life for those living with and affected by HIV/AIDS; assisting people in avoiding HIV infection; and empowering people to lead healthy- productive lives. At the heart of our mission is the conviction that people living with HIV/AIDS have the right to determine what services they require and that stigma is a problem affecting us all.In 2014- SAAF took over several initiatives from Wingspan- formerly southern Arizona?s lesbian- gay- bisexual- transgender- and queer (LGBTQ) community center. This has helped to broaden SAAF?s scope of services which now include the Eon Youth Lounge & Anti-Violence Programs. SAAF changed it?s mission to more accurately reflect our expanded reach. SAAF?s new mission- to cultivate a healthy & stigma-free society through transformative action- more accurately reflects the work SAAF does in our community.In 2015- SAAF celebrated 30 years of providing services and continues to be the only community-based organization in southern Arizona providing case management and ancillary support services for people living with HIV/AIDS and their families; culturally appropriate prevention and education programs to reduce the rate of infection; & LGBTQ community outreach & engagement.

Game for the World(TM) is an innovative board game designed for ages 12 and above to discuss and learn about AIDS in a safe and engaging way. The game enables participants to have an educational and empowering dialogue about AIDS. Participants exchange beliefs- attitudes and feelings about AIDS in a safe setting with clear parameters. Game for the World(TM) is designed to facilitate people listening to one another in a way that honors and respects each individual. Things are often said during the game that people rarely feel the freedom to say. This freedom enables people to talk about AIDS without the secrecy- shame and ignorance which often surrounds it. Everyone is given the chance to be heard and to discuss the myths and misunderstandings around AIDS. The game is an ideal vehicle for people to discuss how they see- how they are affected by and what measures they could take to prevent AIDS.Each game accommodates up to 6 people and is in the form of a table cloth- which is housed in a drawstring bag- making the game portable and durable. Players proceed around a game cloth and earn points by choosing cards which require them to tell the group about their beliefs and attitudes about AIDS- to ask the group for feedback on their beliefs and attitudes or to answer factual questions about AIDS. Players choose the level at which they play and are never required to handle a card they do not wish to handle. The game normally takes an hour and a half to play- however- players may play for a shorter period and benefit from the experience. * see sample questions below.

Clinica Amistad is a free health clinic that opened in March of 2003 serving Tucson's low-income uninsured community. The Kino Teen Center is a comprehensive program providing health care and services to youth- ages 12 -21. The Kino Teen Center strives to maintain an atmosphere that is sensitive to culture and gender diversity. All teens are welcome! Health services provided by the Kino Teen Center are by appointment only- walk-in service is not available.

We provide comprehensive care for HIV/AIDS patients in southern Arizona. With the support of the Ryan White Program- all eligible HIV-positive patients can receive primary care at reduced or no cost.
